Energy efficiency and resource saving

Efficient and rational use of natural energy resources is the cornerstone of “Surgutneftegas” PJSC energy policy. For more than ten years, the Company has paid close attention to reducing the consumption of fuel and energy resources and increasing energy efficiency in technological processes and equipment.

“Surgutneftegas” PJSC has been implementing its energy saving and energy efficiency program since 1997.

The energy saving program covers all sectors of the Company’s operation, including these 10 main areas:

  • well drilling;
  • artificial lift and oil recovery enhancement;
  • water injection;
  • oil treatment and transportation;
  • gas production and transportation;
  • gas processing;
  • power generation;
  • capital construction;
  • well service and workover;
  • major repair of buildings and structures.

As part of the energy saving program, “Surgutneftegas” PJSC annually implements energy efficient electrical and process equipment, including advanced systems for reactive power compensation, permanent magnet motors, energy saving lamps, energy efficient transformers and others.

To ensure accurate planning and 100% metering of energy consumption, “Surgutneftegas” PJSC has built a system of commercial and technical metering of electrical and thermal energy, fuel and water.

In recent years, “Surgutneftegas” PJSC has also introduced information systems that made it possible to automate the processes of energy consumption metering and monitoring the implementation of measures within the energy saving program.

In particular, the Energetika software package allowed us to use the integrated energy infrastructure and energy management system. It performs scheduling of consumption, power generation, capacity, thermal energy, hot water throughout the year in a single information system.

Implementation of the energy saving program in “Surgutneftegas” PJSC

“Surgutneftegas” PJSC annually develops and implements a program for energy saving and energy efficiency in order to increase energy efficiency and reduce the amount of used energy resources. The energy saving program includes measures introducing energy saving technologies and new energy efficient equipment as well as organizational and technical measures aimed at lowering energy consumption in all sectors of operation.

Since 2011 the total savings of equivalent fuel, as a result of the implementation of the energy saving and energy efficiency program, exceeded 3.7 million tonnes.

Scheduled estimated saving of fuel and energy resources in 2023 amounts to 144.3 thousand tonnes of equivalent fuel including the following by type of production activity:

Actual saving of fuel and energy resources achieved in 2022 exceeded 190 thousand tonnes of equivalent fuel. It allowed the Company to decrease the need in fuel and energy resources by 4.6%.
