Surgutneftegas believes in developing corporate science as a stepping stone to technological and competitive advantages and the basis for efficient production.
The Company’s R&D center consists of two institutes: Surgut R&D Institute “SurgutNIPIneft”, together with its branch in the city of Tyumen, and Oil Refining and Petrochemical Enterprises Design Institute “Lengiproneftekhim”, St. Petersburg.
SurgutNIPIneft offers research and design solutions for the upstream sector and develops efficient technologies for the Company’s reserves. State-of-the-art engineering buildings and laboratories, in-house core storages in Surgut and Tyumen, and professional personnel ensure the Institute’s outstanding performance.
SurgutNIPIneft is engaged in PFD projects, conducts feasibility studies for field development programs, field development audits and analysis, and makes geologic and hydrodynamic field models. In addition to that, the Institute carries out well tests, studies reservoir fluid samples, and performs core analysis.
Lengiproneftekhim has more than 50 years of experience in designing petroleum refining facilities.
engiproneftekhim experts designed many industrial facilities in the USSR and process plants in such countries as Bulgaria, Hungary, India, Ethiopia, Turkey, Yugoslavia, etc. Today, the Institute is implementing a number of comprehensive design projects for refining, petrochemical and slate processing sectors including primary crude oil and gas condensate processing, catalytic reforming, motor, diesel and jet fuel hydrotreatment, hydrocarbon isomerization and dehydrogenation, aromatics production, gas fractionation, production of acid compounds and other petrochemicals and offers other engineering and consulting services.
Among the Institute’s customers and partners are major Russian companies and leading engineering companies from Europe and Japan.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
Surgutneftegas employs advanced technology not only to increase well rates and reduce costs but first of all to enhance oil recovery through development of hard-to-recover reserves.
The Company’s proprietary technologies include almost 40 various stimulation methods used as part of comprehensive field development programs based on leading edge technology. None of the domestic oil producers (and sometimes well-known foreign service companies) has such extensive expertise in introduction and application of some technologies in geological and climatic conditions of Western Siberia.
The EOR technologies, that proved the highest efficiency, include hydraulic fracturing, sidetracking, multilateral wells construction, and underbalanced drilling.
Today, coiled tubing drilling, underbalanced well sinking and well development based on gasification system techniques are among the most leading-edge technologies employed by OJSC “Surgutneftegas”.
High performance equipment and qualified and experienced personnel make it possible for the Company to use the best technology available in the global industry without outsourcing and in a more effective way than foreign service companies working in Russia.
