Gas processing

Creation of a complete APG processing, utilization and marketing cycle has become a key milestone in the Company’s diversified business development.

By establishing Gas Processing Division (UPG) in 2002, Surgutneftegas pioneered the integrated approach to gas processing development.

In 2009, the Company’s Gas Processing Division processed 6.9 bcm of gas, or almost 50% of associated petroleum gas produced from Surgutneftegas fields. Totally, the Company processed 7.1 bcm of gas, and plans to accomplish the same processing targets in 2010.

The products manufactured by the Company include:

- Stripped gas
- NGL
- Stable casing-head gasoline
- Commercial propane/butane mix
- Propane

In recent years, the Company performed large-scale upgrades of operating capacities of its gas processing plant, as well as retrofitted equipment, and brought into operation new facilities.

Commissioned in 2006, the third phase of the Company’s gas processing plant with capacity of 3 bcm of gas per year enabled Surgutneftegas to boost throughput performance and APG utilization rate by over 70%. The same year marked the construction of the tank car racks for loading liquid hydrocarbons (NGL, commercial propane-butane), and Tank farm No. 3. Presently, the Company completed the full-scale upgrade of the process control systems at its Gas Processing Division.

The integrated information system consolidates the real-time data from all the Company’s gas utilization facilities, which enables us to control the performance of production facilities, gas processing and utilization facilities, gas flow rate parameters across the Company’s operation areas, as well as quickly respond to performance fluctuations.

The commissioned facilities helped triple gas throughput to 7 bcm per year, and raise liquids output by 1.5 times to almost 600,000 tons per year in 2009, as compared to 2002.
